The chemistry with your coach has to be right. To help you work out if I could be the right coach for you here’s how I would describe what you can expect from working with me. Just as importantly, I’ve included what you shouldn’t expect from coaching with me.
What can you expect?
Open minded, respectful and honest discussion (with a bit of humour thrown in)
To work with me to identify areas for development and establish clear focus & goals for your coaching.
An insight into how others really experience working with you at your best and worst backed up with evidence-based feedback.
Questions that get you to challenge yourself and help you work out what you’re going to do about it
Non- judgmental discussion to explore your thinking on a confidential basis. You get unconditional support and time for you, which can be a rare thing in life!
Practical ideas and action with a healthy dose of realism
To get to know and understand yourself better with the resulting benefits to both your life
Explore different perspectives and help you form ideas with meaning for you. Striking the balance is tricky and this balance changes at different points in life.
A place to make informed and sometimes brave choices that really help you shift your thinking and make progress on the things that are holding you back
What you shouldn’t expect
It’s not counselling or therapy, it’s not fluffy nonsense
Meandering philosophical debate that is unconnected to what you want to achieve
Insight that has not been validated/backed up with clear examples
Someone who will listen to your woes and then fix them for you
A static agenda with someone pushing their agenda that isn’t tailored to your needs
To avoid the discussion about who you really are and what makes you tick
Skirting round the issue and not really getting to the nub of what’s going on
A transactional discussion lacking context and balance
To come to coaching and not be challenged out of your comfort zone. You will work with me on finding the things you want to shift/develop and then put new ideas into practice
In addition to the breadth of my 25 years of experience in various roles in very different organisations and industries, I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Executive and Business Coaching and I am a Professional Coach credentialed with the International Coaching Federation.
My coaching is grounded by a code of ethics and professional standards that sit behind the experience. I am trained to use profiling tools including Thomas International DISC, Gallup Strengths Finder, EQi (Emotional Intelligence) and Engage (Mindset Development) which can be used with feedback to develop self-awareness (to ground the coaching) and measure change.
I have experience of establishing coaching cultures in businesses and setting this up from scratch. This involves creating a coaching strategy, training managers as coaches, establishing a group of professionally trained internal coaches and selecting a group of external specialist coaches.
In one to one coaching, I tailor each coaching programme to the specific needs of the individual involved to ensure that the person and the organisation achieve the best possible outcome.
